Deep Clean Your Washroom in 6 Steps

Your shower gets you clean, but what cleans your shower?

Pour an ample amount of white vinegar into a plastic grocery bag and tie it in place for an overnight soaking. Remove it in the morning and run the water to rinse. For shower doors, make a paste by adding a few drops of distilled white vinegar to a cup of baking soda; apply it directly to the door. Let sit for an hour, then rub with a microfiber cloth. Rinse and buff dry with a fresh, dry microfiber cloth. The tub is less of an issue—a weekly scrubbing is usually enough. Wipe condensation from all surfaces after showering, and leave the window open for one hour a day to lower the room’s humidity level.

Grout is porous and highly susceptible to bacteria growth. Dip a grout brush in straight bleach and scrub any discolored areas; rinse well. Be sure to ventilate the room. Seal grout every six months to help prevent moisture and grime from infiltrating.

Tile, Walls, Ceiling
Spray tile, countertops, walls, and the ceiling with all-purpose cleaner and turn on the shower, cranking the hot water until steam builds (about five minutes). Turn off the water, shut the door on your way out, and let the steam and the cleaner mix for 20 minutes. Then wipe down all surfaces with a clean cloth. To reach high spots, use a clean, dry microfiber mop. Wipe the tile floor, too, but only after you’ve finished the rest of the dirty work.

Baking soda and vinegar are two of the most useful common household products that can be used to clean many things, including hard water stains in the toilet. Start by pouring a cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl and swish it around with a toilet brush. Let it sit for about a minute. Then add about 1 cup of baking soda to the toilet bowl and follow it by adding another cup of vinegar. Allow about 10 minutes for the fizzing action to work; brush and flush.

Washroom Sink
Bathroom sinks get a lot of use. Choose a bathroom cleaner of your choice and liberally spray the sink. Make sure to get all parts of the sink, including the faucet and behind the faucet. Confirm the cleaner is a disinfectant. This is important as bathroom sinks can potentially accumulate a variety of germs. After spraying your cleaner, take a clean cloth and wipe down the entire surface of your sink. Pay special attention to especially dirty areas and apply pressure when you need.

Hand Towels
They’re shared by many, and they trap moisture—that’s a recipe for bacteria stew. Use the sanitizing setting if your washing machine has one (or bleach them). Replace with clean towels every three to four days. Spread out wet towels on a bar, where air can circulate, rather than hanging them from a hook. Don’t forget to clean the towel bar; it too collects bacteria. And avoid hanging wet towels near the toilet.

Whenever you clean the washroom, whether deeply or quickly, dry all surfaces well!

The Reasons Why You Should Clean Your Washroom

Clean washrooms Keep guests coming back
Did you know that clean washrooms are more important to restaurant guests than kitchen cleanliness, friendly service or visually appealing food? 78% of guests judge a clean washrooms as an indicator of a clean kitchen and good food quality. 75% of guests said they would not return to an establishment if the washrooms were not well kept.

It shows you value your workforce
A clean washroom has a positive effect on the workplace environment. Good and hygiene washrooms show that you care about your employees as well as the facility. Employees want to work in a clean environment, and the washroom is a huge factor in how they evaluate the cleanliness of their workplace.

It reduces the spread of bacteria and viruses
Bacteria and Viruses can live on washroom surfaces for up to a week or more. Keeping a clean washroom means wiping surfaces daily with bacteria killing solutions (vinegar, bleach, antibacterial cleaners); paying special attention to the surfaces of the toilet, tub, sink and handles. A regular cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing routine can reduce the likelihood of spreading dangerous bacteria and viruses, which, in turn, can help prevent employees, visitors, and customers from becoming ill.

It helps preserve the condition of basin, commode, mirror and floor
When not properly maintained, washrooms can become a nuisance to clean because stains and dirt can quickly build up. If cleaned correctly, facilities can avoid problems, such as rust stains and mold on the basin, commode, mirror and floor, which can result in having to replace these fixtures sooner than normal. Regular cleaning and maintenance can save valuable time and money.

Breathing issues
Inhaling mold and dust can cause health concerns for those who may already suffer from breathing issues such as COPD, asthma, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, or other conditions. Daily wiping down of your washroom will help decrease surface bacteria/ viruses/ pathogens greatly.

Overall safety
It’s not only important to have a clean washroom but to make sure you provide a safe one also. Keeping the washroom free of clutter is part of having a clean washroom. Having items on the floor, next to, or around the toilet area can cause falling hazards. Safety Bars are extremely important to have safety grips. Suction cup bars are NOT recommended and can become unattached easily.
